Altona test suite (on-line version and applications package) is a communal project of federal association pressure and media (bvdm) Wiesbaden, European Color initiative (ECI), St. Gallen EMPA/Ugra and the research society pressure (FOGRA) Munich. The applications package exists of authoritative printing and colouring standards which were made carefully within narrow tolerance. Files, characterisation data and ICC profiles also belong a CD-ROM with test suite to it according to standard-pressure terms after ISO 12647. A comprehensive documentation explains the elements of the Altona to test suite in detail, use and delivers all information in connection with the standardised process control. The Altona test suite exists of a sentence of PDF files which were developed especially to the check of digital issue devices – in particular Proof solutions, conventional and digital pressure systems–.
Nevertheless, the application is not limited to issue devices. The Altona test suite serves to check the observance pdf / X-3 specification and the colour exactness of all software and hardware components in a PDF workflow in the pressure preliminary stage.
The Altona test suite was tested in 2002 and 2003 extensively, was applied and developed within the scope of the Digitalproof forums from bvdm and ECI. Media service providers, printers, manufacturers and system developers use the Altona test suite regularly as a systematic, comprehensive test for Digitalproof and workflow systems, digital and analogous issue devices.
Altona test suite has won internationally already high respect. In May, 2003 Altona test was a suite the principal item in "Digital proofing shootout" of the IPA in Chicago, in September, 2003 with the „Seybold SF in 2003 PDF workflow Shootout“.
