Ugra/FOGRA Media Wedge CIELAB
The introduction of colour management makes the change to a media independent workflow possible. For this the image data needs to be kept in media neutral form - for example as CIELAB data - for as long as possible. In such a situation the Ugra/FOGRA Media Wedge CMYK would be only usable after conversion into CIELAB. Here an additional control aid in CIELAB colour format is required. This is the gap filled by the UgralFOGRA Media Wedge CIELAB. The Ugra/FOGRA Media Wedge CIELAB permits the evaluation of the colour gamut and the colour accuracy in a media neutral workflow. In particular the colour gamut adjustments through colour management can be evaluated. By means of three lines of colour panels, which represent colour gamut of differing extents, the effects of perceptual rendering of an output profile can be checked and compared.
The Ideal Colour Gamut (line I) Covers the space spanned by the extreme pigment colours. The ideal colour gamut cannot be output by any printing process.
The Real Colour Gamut (line R) is achieved by, for example, offset or gravure printing on coated Papers.
The Minimum Colour Gamut (line M) represents newspaper printing.
In the media neutral production process the UgraIFOGRA Media Wedge CIELAB will be needed for regular checking of the whole workflow and the colour management System. This is done to evaluate colourgamut compression and freedom from colour shifts (colour casts). The Ugra/ FOGRA Media Wedge CIELAB is not intended for the control of a digital proof print because there are no targ6t va~uesfo r the print process. Here the Ugra/FOGRA Media Wedge CMYK should be used instead.
