Press release
Braunschweig, Dortmund, October 2006
Brakensiek Systemhaus GmbH & Co. KG, LaserSoft Imaging’s exclusive distributor of SilverFast for Heidelberg High End Scanners in Germany, certifies Quato Intelli Proof Monitors exclusively for FOGRA R27L-conformed workflows.
To date, the BARCO Reference Calibrator Monitors are regarded as the ultimate viewers for colour correct displays by many users.. Comparable to this, Linotype-Hell’s Chromagraph S3400/S3900, Chromagraph S3300/S3700, Heidelberg Topaz, Tango and Nexscan- Scanners provide the high quality needed for repro-scans. Ever since introduction of these two solutions, with the final switch from Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X and especially with the switch to the Intel Processors, many new support issues have arisen. Even though these scanners are far from being outdated, they are excluded from further developments on the Macintosh platform.
A unique solution offering all users of the SCSI-based Linotype Hell Chromagraph S3400, Chromagraph S3300, Heidelberg Topaz and Nexscan- systems, is now being offered by company Brakensiek Systemhaus GmbH & Co. KG (www.brakensiek.com) in co-operation with LaserSoft Imaging AG (www.silverfast.com), to switch to Mac OS X and G5 Mac Pro systems even by FireWire with the optional kit. Chromagraph S3700 scanners may be modified to become S3300 scanners and Chromagraph S3900 scanners modified to become Chromagraph S3400 scanners by Brakensiek Systemhaus GmbH & Co. KG, thus making them controllable by SilverFast. This conversion is usually also available for defective Control-PC or FPI board S3700 and S3900 scanners, and may upgrade older software versions. An update to Software13/Pentium is explicitly not necessary.
The award-winning SilverFastStudio software allows integral calibration of the scanners within a completely integrated colour-management workflow, including obliging monitor proof according to FOGRA R27L. For this, however, a hardware calibrated monitor is required.
Due to the age and non-compatibility to Mac OSX of the BARCO reference calibrators, they are not suitable for this purpose. Tim Brakensiek has hence opted for the German manufacturer and BARCO-Distributor Quato, since their Intelli Proof Monitors are technically and colour metrically superior to BARCO systems.
Quato has integrated their own hard- and software routines into the routines of UDACT (UGRA Display Analysis and Certification Tool), the Swiss UGRA and the American SWOP committee by which a calibrated monitor may directly be certified. This is totally new, previously proprietary and hence non-comparable tests dominated.
The route to Quato led FOGRA member Brakensiek Systemhaus GmbH & Co. KG via monitors of the Japanese manufacturer EIZO, who were, however, unable to satisfy the high standards of the customers. After a extensive market- and customer evaluation, the restricted calibration precision of the EIZO monitors led to the temporary solution to remain with BARCO until a better solution could be found.
With introduction of the new “Quato Intelli Proof 230” and „Quato Intelli Proof 230 Excellence“ this step was realized and tests proved the suitability of these monitors as a replacement for the Reference Calibrator systems.
The Repro and Advertising institution ”Vogelsang–Zander” (www.vogelsang-zander.de) offered to evaluate and installed three „Quato Intelli Proof 230“ as the respective Apple Mac Pro Dual Xeon computers with FireWire support for the available Heidelberg Tango, Linotype-Hell Chromagraph S3400 and Heidelberg Nexscan scanners. What Detlef Vogelsang, CEO, liked most about the „Quato Intelli Proof 230“ was the vast area with the high homogenous area display.
“With the EIZO Monitors we were unhappy with both grey balance and the very restricted test possibilities of the software” Vogelsang said during a meeting. Quato fulfilled all requirements and proved to be an optimal replacement for the BARCO systems. In addition, Quato consists of a much larger colour space and hence is more suitable for soft proofing than the BARCO or the EIZO CG210. The integrated UDACT certification showed that the Intelli Proof 230 performed well below the marginal error values and thus allows a great amount of process-control and safety. It is also easy to adjust and tune a number of monitors. Additionally, there is the option to configure one monitor as master and calibrate all others as slaves.
“The monthly calibration and the simplicity of the Quato-Hardware calibration make it easy for employees to work under optimal conditions without having to read through thick manuals each time” Mr Vogelsang added. The Quato monitors represent an optimal complement to the Heidelberg High-End-Scanners with SilverFastAi.

We do not have an online shop. In order to avoid spam-mail, we had to introduce an established validation system.
This might be a little bit more work for you but it guarantees that we are able to supply you with an offer as quick and safe as possible.
As a basic principle, we do not make offers on the phone. As we receive more than 100 offers a day, we have up to 11 employees working making offers by mail.
To make it clear, you will not get offers generated by a system, but by our employees.
Offers for high-prized products take a little longer because they have to be approved by our managing director.
If the stoplight is red, we do not have the product on stock anymore, but we wish to purchase it.
If you fill out the registration form for this product, we will inform you as soon as the product or a similar product is available again.
