Auto-negotiation for 3 Gb/s and 1.5 Gb/s drives guarantees no switches, jumpers, or control panels need to be set, so installation is as simple as securing the drives to the trays.

Maximum Flexibility:
With support for 3 Gb/s drives and backward compatibility with 1.5 Gb/s drives, you'll get maximum flexibility in drive choice for years to come. The five hot-swap drive trays offer great freedom for building your own storage solution—you don't get locked into a specific configuration. Start out with a single drive for simple data storage and then add additional ones as the need arises. Or, fill the enclosure with five drives up to 750GB each to create a huge 3.75 Terabyte striped RAID set—combine two or more for uncompressed 10-bit HD video capture and editing—Fusion 500P is truly versatile. Fusion 500P is attractive and user friendly. Its handsome door hides the drive trays, yet status indicator LEDs for each drive shine through. The drive trays have built-in locking levers that double as handles to make swapping drives easy. Or if you choose, you can secure each drive tray in place with the built-in locks; great for added security. And the whisper-quiet fan that cools everything is even hot-swappable.

Important Notes:
Western Digital manufactures Desktop edition (WD Caviar, Caviar SE, Caviar SE16, and Raptor X) hard drives and Enterprise (RAID) Edition (WD RE, RE2, and Raptor) hard drives. Each type of hard drive is designed to work specifically in either a desktop computer environment, or connected to a RAID controller (hardware or software-based). If you intend to configure Western Digital drives in a RAID set, Sonnet and WD recommend using only their Enterprise edition hard drives.
